I have two drum setups: one built for live shows and one for the studio. Both use Mapex shells, UFIP Bionic Series cymbals and Axis single pedals.

Depending on what your band needs, I set up one or two bass drums, with or without triggers, with or without click and with or without sequences. Every option is detailed below.

Live setup: double bass drum

The one I use mainly for concerts and festivals.

  • ✓2 bass drums, 20"×18" Mapex Mars Driftwood
  • ✓10", 12" and 14" toms, Mapex Mars Driftwood
  • ✓13"×6" Mapex Black Panther snare
  • ✓Axis single pedals

Studio setup: single bass drum

The one I use mainly for recording sessions. In the studio I can request other models, with shells of different materials and sizes.

  • ✓22"×18" Mapex Saturn Teal Blue Fade bass drum
  • ✓10", 12", 14" and 16" toms, Mapex Saturn Teal Blue Fade
  • ✓13"×6" Mapex Black Panther snare
  • ✓Axis single pedals

Cymbals: UFIP Bionic Series

The same in both setups.

  • ✓Hi-hat 14"
  • ✓Crash 17"
  • ✓Crash 18"
  • ✓Ride 20"
  • ✓China 18"
  • ✓Splash 10"
  • ✓Splash 12"
  • ✓Bell 8"
  • ✓Hi-hat 14" (segundo)
  • ✓Crash FX 18"

With or without click track

I play with or without a click track, depending on how your band works. When a click is used, the B-BEAT module sends it out on its own dedicated output.

Backing tracks and sequences with B-BEAT

I own a B-BEAT module that lets me program backing tracks and sequences and trigger them myself from the kit.

Connections: the B-BEAT has 2 sends and 2 returns (L and R). The sends go out from jack to XLR, one for the click and one for the sequences. The returns are two stereo jack inputs, carrying a mix of drums, lead guitar and vocals.

Kick triggers: with or without

I can work with kick triggers (individual Footblaster units connected to a Roland TM-2 module) or without them, depending on what the hiring band needs.

Requirements if triggers are used: the module needs a power outlet and a DI box, and one mono send is provided.

Mapex backline for recording

Whenever possible, for recording sessions I work with Mapex backline supplied by the distributor, which lets me offer a wide range of shells to choose from depending on the sound your track needs.

Preparation time

For a 10-song setlist, the average preparation time is around 2 months. If your date is tighter, let me know from the start.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between your two setups?
The live setup has two 20"×18" Mapex Mars Driftwood bass drums and 10", 12" and 14" toms. The studio setup has a 22"×18" Mapex Saturn Teal Blue Fade bass drum and 10", 12", 14" and 16" toms. In both I use the 13"×6" Mapex Black Panther snare and the same UFIP Bionic Series cymbals. In the studio I can request other models, with shells of different materials and sizes.
Do you work with Mapex backline?
Yes, whenever possible. For recording sessions I work with Mapex backline supplied by the distributor, which lets me choose from a wide range of shells depending on the sound the track needs.
What do I need for kick triggers?
The Footblaster triggers connect to a Roland TM-2 module, which needs a power outlet and a DI box. One mono send is provided. I use them or not depending on what the band needs.
Can you play with click track and sequences?
Yes. I have a B-BEAT module that lets me program and trigger backing tracks and sequences, with separate sends for click and sequences. I can also play without a click, depending on how the band works.
